PRIZE
Alexandra Almazova, age 15
SCHOOL NO. 328
I was born in Leningrad, which is called St Petersburg now, the name given
to it by Peter the Great.
I love my city, so beautiful in all seasons, so recognisable and unpredictable,
so old and young, having rich history and looking into the future. I adore
the Nevsky Prospekt - the main street of the city - with its numerous bright
lights and thousands of people, luxurious boutiques and small cosy places
where one can suddenly find himself in the 18th or 19th Century.
I am proud of my city: so many famous names are inseperable from it, they
lived here, dedicated their works to it and made it known to a lot of people
all over the world.
My favourite poet, Alexander Pushkin, lived and worked here. He studied
in the Lyceum and wrote a number of poems in memory of those days in Tsarskoe
Selo in the suburbs of St Petersburg. Pushkin and St Petersburg are my friends,
my teachers and my first and foreverlasting love.
