A Hero's Dawn

It was the cry that woke him. It may have been a cry: the waking call of an early rising bird, the innocent cry of a young child in the streets, the yell of anger from the frustrated failed author who lived in apartment 4C of the flats, whose mind was crammed full of ideas he could not portray. It could have been any one of these cries, but to him the cry was that of danger.

His eyes snapped open as if the lights of his mind had been flicked on. His mind buzzed and his ears were filled with the hum of the awakening city resurrected from the cold empty night. The sound of the traders setting up for their day of desperate competition for the modern day consumer's attention, the whistle of the postman who compensated for the fact that his wife had left him with an unnerving upbeat attitude, the sound of the working class business people in their grey and black suits heading off to their long nine till fives all filled his ears. A city of denial; no one aware that evil was lurking in every shadow.

He slid noisily to his cold wooden floor, his feet testing the ground before standing straight. He ran his long-fingered hand through his short curly golden locks and looked around him. The room was lit by bright neon lights that brightly illuminated his super computer built for targeting crime and evil, his super mobile a long sleek black car with attached missile launchers and automated tracking and locating system built in. On the far side of the room hung his assortment of costumes equipped with various gadgets and designed for any circumstance. Beside these was the large iron door inlaid with crystal diamond giving him a vantage point from which to view the city and plot his rescue.

He trudged sleepily to the costume case and selected his coolest day costume, his gold and black ultra armour. He turned to the large vantage point door. It was built out of Omeganium, an unbreakable metal giving him maximum security. He operated a lever and stepped out through the sliding door into the daylight. His day had begun.
