The Rail Bridge

A red glint in the evening sky,
Brighter than sunset, Redder than the sun,
Ruling over the landscape,
Looming behind the fog,
Forever watching the hills,
Angered by choppy waters.

A distant rumble and toot,
A monster's growling,
Vibrating the landscape around,
Trains crossing in dark and light,
Tiny against the giant figure,
Communing between north and south.

Well known yet unknown,
An image on paper,
Tea towels and mugs,
Stereotyped around the world,
A landmark but nobody knows,
An image that nobody sees,
Taken for granted,
But amazing still

At the end of a long journey,
Rising behind the hill,
The distant shine of the Forth,
Eating around the pillars,
An image of Scotland,
