Seeing all I saw, and feeling all I felt when I was in St Petersburg is an experience it will be impossible to forget. I met the nicest of people, ate the most delicious food and took in so much in one week that I was sure my brain must burst!

Peter the Great did me the most marvellous favour when he built his ‘Window to the West’! The architecture in the city is fascinating. Everywhere you look there are spectacular palaces and beautiful churches. The most unusual building we saw was on the way home from Peterhof. It was a church situated in a wide open space painted in white and vibrant pink stripes it reminded me of something from Disneyland.

The highlight of the trip for me was our visit to the ballet. We went to see The Nutcracker. A dancer myself, I can always appreciate other dancers’ technical skill. I love to watch every move and this took my breath away. The performance was more colourful than I could ever have imagined.

Each night we spent in a different way. We went to the ballet, a Russian folk concert, to an organ mass, to a display of choreography of some dance students and out for our evening meal to two different families.

Russia exceeded all my expectations. I enjoyed every moment of my trip.
