When I first arrived in St Petersburg, and we were
driving to our host Natalya's flat the roads were lined with flats
and man holes, and it was a bit like how New York is drawn in cartoons.
But I love St Petersburg.
The flat we stayed in was HUGE! Well, it was the size of a good
sized house. And our host Natalya was really welcoming. I miss some
of her cooking. The pancakes (called blinis) rocked. But I did have
a bit of trouble as I don't like tea. It is very popular there.
We went about St Petersburg with our guide, Elena. She was really
nice. But as we were walking about some of St Petersburg I did notice
that the drains smoked. It was as if there was a dragon breathing
smoke, living in the sewers. And I have no idea why on earth this
happened.
It was fun at the flea market. All the people were really friendly
and they all spoke English. I bought some great things there. It
was mainly Russian dolls and decorated boxes.
We went to three schools. I made the most friends at the first school.
They came on a boat ride on the canals with us. That was fun. They
all told us it would be freezing, but it wasn't cold at all.
Possibly one of the best things about the trip was the gothic library
in the winter palace. It had very beautiful furniture and was crammed
full of books. But the gothic library was the best because I like
that style a lot.
I'm going back to St Petersburg one way or another. And I'm just
glad I got the opportunity to go and not just see the sights, but
to meet some of the people as well. And I have some memories that
will last a lifetime. |
