English Staff Base

A blue radio, broken, useless,
The little white kettle, still full,
Too slight to quench a thirst for knowledge,
The howling wind and clattering rain,
The remote hum of the miniature fridge,
An electric heater to raise the sinking souls,
A blue and white deckchair, out of place –
A dream of contentment.
A cream vase defiant against the overwhelming white,
The strong, wooden door protecting the inner peace.
This room, built by the minds of people,
Not machines.
